Event narrative

A tree and wires were downed resulting in a road closure along New York Route 212 near New York Route 28 in the Town of Shandaken. A tree was also downed on New York Route 55 at Sherman Road in the Town of Wawarsing.

Wider weather episode

Strong to locally damaging winds developed across eastern New York in the wake of a cold front beginning in the afternoon hours on March 6, 2025 and continued into March 7, 2025. Widespread wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph were observed with some locally higher gusts including a 69 mph wind gust at the Schenectady County Airport. These winds resulted in some downed trees and wires across the area. Strong winds continued on March 8 but were not as strong with some peak gusts between 40 and 50 mph.
