Gusty southerly winds developed ahead of a line of storms in Wicomico. Winds frequently gusted between 35 and 45 miles per hour. The Salisbury ASOS measured a peak gust to 60 miles per hour (52 knots) ahead of a line of storms at 4:24 PM EST.

Wider weather episode

A strong area of low pressure (980 mb) slowly moved northeast across the Great Lakes on March 5. A strong low level jet developed ahead of the associated cold front across portions of the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore on March 5, resulting in strong southerly winds ahead of convection.
