Law enforcement in Yoakum County reported ping pong ball size hail between Denver City and Plains along Texas State Highway 214.

Scattered thunderstorms developed in eastern New Mexico on the afternoon of the fourth in advance of a large upper level storm system in the southwestern United States. Strong atmospheric instability in eastern New Mexico quickly dropped off in West Texas with a lack of rich low level moisture. However, one thunderstorm was able to be maintained as it crossed into Yoakum County producing large hail.
