A 60 mph thunderstorm wind gust was measured at the Burlington airport.

A large and strong mid to upper level low pressure system moved from the southern Plains northeast through the Great Lakes region March 4-5. Ahead of a trailing cold front, a long and nearly continuous line of showers and storms which had held together crossing the Mid South region, pushed into the North Carolina Foothills and western Piedmont in the morning of the 5th, crossing central North Carolina through mid afternoon.
