Two sensors measured criteria cold, including mesonet sensor BFTM 4.4 E Hogeland which measured a -40F wind chill.

Wider weather episode

A cyclonic flow aloft, with several embedded shortwaves passing through it, allowed for several pushes of bitterly cold air to filter into the region from Canada in the early to mid February timeframe.
