Many mesonets observed criteria cold, including mesonet sensor BFTM 4.4 E Hogeland (AGRIMET) which measured a wind chill of -46 F.

Wider weather episode

A cyclonic flow aloft, with several embedded shortwaves passing through it, allowed for several pushes of bitterly cold air to filter into the region from Canada in the early to mid February timeframe.
