What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A brief EF-0 tornado touched down near Thornton Ln and Weaver Creek Dr. It produced minor tree damage eastward to Nash Rd where the tornado lifted. This survey was based on the presence of a brief Tornado Debris Signature and damage reports from the area. Peak winds were estimated at 75 mph.

The wider storm

After days of high pressure, southerly winds returned and advected sufficient moisture into the area providing ample instability across north Mississippi ahead of a cold front. Typical of March, cold mid-level temperatures provided steep lapse rates. These lapse rates combined with deep bulk layer shear, resulting in large hail and damaging winds during the late afternoon and evening. Storm mode began as discrete cells, before congealing into a line where a quick, spin-up EF-0 tornado occurred in Monroe County.

Began near Hatley (33.9784, -88.3912).
