Event narrative
A NWS damage survey revealed that 70 to 100 mph wind gusts damaged 13 large transmission lines across rural Acadia Parish. In addition to these lines, numerous trees, smaller power poles, and several homes and outbuildings were also heavily damaged. The width of the damage swath was approximately 3 miles which began just east of the Mermateau River, and extended to neighborhoods south of Eunice. Large trees falling on homes created the greatest damage.
Wider weather episode
A cold front moved across southeast Texas and into Louisiana. Storms had developed along the boundary with one becoming severe before moving into Louisiana. Other storms also strengthened as the boundary pushed across Acadiana.
