Event narrative

This winter system brought gusty winds and heavy snow to Taylor County on March 5th. Snowfall totals ranged around 3 to 5 inches across the county with the highest reported total being 4.5 inches near Westboro. Locally higher amounts near 6 inches were likely in northern portions of the county.

Wider weather episode

During the first week of March, a powerful mid-latitude cyclone progressed through the Upper Midwest overnight on the 4th and into the morning and afternoon on the 5th. As this occurred, rain changed over to snow with increasing winds during the early morning hours on March 5th. Overall, snow accumulations across western Wisconsin were generally light, however gusty winds up to 35 mph led to some locally hazardous travel conditions at times.
