Wider weather episode
A very hot atmosphere on the afternoon of the 22nd combined with a variety of surface boundaries creating isolated thunderstorms, mostly east of the caprock escarpment. Although cloud bases were very high, ample instability in mid-levels of the atmosphere allowed storms to quickly become severe with large hail. One storm in southeastern Crosby County produced hail up to half dollar size. Several other thunderstorms likely produced severe hail but no reports were received.
