What the National Weather Service wrote

The UofU Compass Minerals Flux Tower mesonet station recorded an initial strong wind gust of 65 mph at 12:00 pm MST, followed by a subsequent peak wind gust of 70 mph at 12:30 pm MST. These wind gusts were the result of outflow winds associated with a nearby cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area.

The wider storm

Mid level height falls ahead of an approaching trough resulted in the development of scattered convection throughout the day. Given dry low levels and a well mixed boundary layer, DCAPE values were high, and numerous dry to mostly dry microbursts were observed across Utah.
