Wider weather episode
An approaching storm system pushed a cold front southeast through west Kentucky on the evening of the 23rd. Surface-based CAPE around 1000J/kg and deep layer shear of 40-50kts set the stage for a line of thunderstorms to move southeast across west Kentucky through the evening. A few storms within the line pulsed up to produce some small hail, but one stronger storm managed to produce quarter size hail south of Smithland.
