With the area warm sectored, MLCAPE values increased to 500-1000 J/kg through the afternoon. Falling heights aloft from an approaching upper level trough and a cold front at the surface were able to produce enough lift to spark a broken line of showers and thunderstorms. One portion of the line became severe and produced damaging wind gusts in southern CT.
