The month started with the western half of the zone in Extreme(D3) drought and Severe(D2) drought over the east. By the end of April, the entire zone was in Extreme(D3) drought. The Truth or Consequences Airport reported just a trace of precipitation which was 0.27 inches below normal.
Wider weather episode
Another very dry month across southern New Mexico pushed at least Extreme(D3) drought conditions through the region.
