Strengthening southwest flow aloft from the desert southwest to the Plains, induced surface low pressure in the lee of the Rockies on the 18th. This led to increasing southerly flow over southeast Missouri through the day and into the evening. Areas from Poplar Bluff to Cape Girardeau and Perryville gusted 40-50 mph through the afternoon. The Cape Girardeau Regional Airport (KCGI) gusted to 49 mph.
