A cold front draped across the southern half of the country was moving south through central Louisiana and Mississippi on March 8th. Warm moist southerly flow was increasing as this boundary approached due to lowering surface pressures. Thunderstorms developed in the warm sector over the northern Gulf ahead of the front. One storm passing over a buoy produced a severe wind gust.
