Event narrative

The Silver Fire began near Highway 6 and Silver Canyon Rd near Laws. The fire jumped Highway 6, causing it to be closed for several hours, and eventually reached its final size of 1,611 acres on April 2nd. No fatalities, injuries, or damaged structures were reported.

Wider weather episode

Strong low and mid level jets ahead of a deep low over the Pacific Northwest brought downslope winds to the Owens Valley. These winds helped spread the Silver Fire, which lasted into April.
