A Tempest mesonet station (146650) just south of Norris Bridge measured a gust to 35 knots (40 miles per hour).

Scattered thunderstorms developed ahead of an approaching cold front on the night of March 16 into the early morning hours of March 17. These storms moved across the Chesapeake Bay, rivers, Atlantic Coastal Waters, and Currituck Sound, producing gusty winds.
