Event narrative

The coastal station at Brazos Santiago, just inshore of the Isla Blanca jetty (north jetty), recorded a gust just below 37 knots at 548 AM CST March 27th due to a strong to severe thunderstorm system that moved slowly along the coast. By proxy, the nearshore waters just east of South Padre is used for this report. Strong winds above gale force and near storm force (gusts) prevailed for about 12 to 15 minutes.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level disturbance combined with a stationary front to produce periods of strong to severe thunderstorms on land that pushed across the Lower Texas Gulf and Laguna Madre waters during the morning of March 27th and again during the late evening of the same day and post-midnight hours of the 28th.
