The South Padre Island Coast Guard station recorded a second wind gust of 36.16 knots at 206 AM CST from a developing thunderstorm system over the area, with winds above gale force continuing for just below six minutes (by proxy observation).

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level disturbance combined with a stationary front to produce periods of strong to severe thunderstorms on land that pushed across the Lower Texas Gulf and Laguna Madre waters during the morning of March 27th and again during the late evening of the same day and post-midnight hours of the 28th.
