Event narrative

The South Padre Island Coast Guard station recorded a period of wind gusts above gale force, which peaked at 38.29 knots at 11:30 PM CST, from another intense band of thunderstorms moving quickly across the coast. Gale force gusts continued for approximately 13 minutes.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level disturbance combined with a stationary front to produce periods of strong to severe thunderstorms on land that pushed across the Lower Texas Gulf and Laguna Madre waters during the morning of March 27th and again during the late evening of the same day and post-midnight hours of the 28th.
