Severe to extreme drought conditions, D2-D3, continued into the month of May over much of western into parts of central North Dakota. Very limited changes occurred through mid-May, but widespread rains over central into parts of western North Dakota led to some improvement. The most notable improvement was to the eastern portions of the drought area where heavier rains occurred, with Adams, Hettinger, and Mercer Counties improving from D2 (Severe Drought) to D1 (Moderate Drought).
