Occluding surface low pressure tracked across the Upper Ohio Valley and into western New York by the morning of January 1st. Rain transitioned to snow behind a crossing cold front in strong cold advection. Lake enhancement led to accumulations of 1 to 4 inches across some locations north of I-80.
