A photo of hail was shared by the Appling
county EM which estimated to be quarter
sized. They also reported pea to nickel size
hail fell in the Baxley area.
The wider storm
A surface front meandered across the local area. This feature combined with moist and unstable SW flow from the Gulf triggered strong to isolated severe storms in the afternoon and evening. A gustnado in Baxley produced no damage.
