Event narrative

Zone average snowfall of 5 inches.

Wider weather episode

A potent upper-level disturbance, together with a northward-tracking surface low from the Mid-Atlantic region brought light to moderate snowfall to portions of eastern New York from late April 11 through early afternoon April 12. The heaviest snowfall was concentrated south of Interstate 90 and confined to the higher terrain regions of the Eastern Catskills, Helderbergs, and Taconics. Accumulations of one half inch to 6 inches were common within and south of the Capital Region, with much of this falling during the overnight period of April 11. As this occurred over a weekend, little impact to travel occurred, though slippery road conditions did occur.

Key impacts: slippery road conditions.
