Event narrative

The Potomac River at Paw Paw river gauge reached minor flood stage with it's crest peaking in moderate flood stage at 30.2 feet. At 25 feet, a parking area adjacent to the highway bridge begins to flood. The roadway to the C&O Canal parking area floods, as does the lowest end of the Purslane Run hiker/biker area. At 26 feet, water covers an access road on the West Virginia side. At 30 feet, Paw Paw Tunnel Campground begins to flood.

Wider weather episode

A slow moving closed upper level low originating from the Gulf of America brought anomalous moisture into the area bringing localized heavy rain and a long duration moderate rain event.
