The official snow observer at Sault Ste. Marie, MI reported 9.1 inches of snow by 11:55pm on the 28th.
Wider weather episode
A strong low pressure system crossed the area on the 28th. Warm advection on the front side of this system resulted in a hefty swath of snow across the eastern UP; south of this, snow mixed with and changed over to rain through the day as temperatures rose into the 50s across the southern half of the area. Breezy conditions accompanied this system, and a rapid drop in temperatures occurred as a cold front swept across the area...with lake effect returning on the backside of the system.
