Event narrative

The mesonet station at Little Burro on the White Sands Missile Range measured a peak wind gust of 63 mph from nearby virga showers and dry thunderstorms.

Wider weather episode

Intense daytime heating combined with higher midlevel moisture resulted in the development of virga showers and dry thunderstorms across the southwest mountains during the afternoon moving east into the lower Rio Grande Valley and south central highlands by the evening hours. This virga and dry thunderstorm activity resulted in a brief 61 mph wind gust at the Stallion Runway mesonet station and 63 mph wind gust at the Little Burro mesonet stations.
