Event narrative
Multiple broadcast media sources reported that a 12 year old male went missing off of Fort Lauderdale Beach around the 800 block of Seabreeze Boulevard. Fort Lauderdale Fire and Rescue responded to the call shortly after 4:30pm. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department dive team located the body shortly after 8pm. Conditions at the time of the drowning consisted of breezy easterly winds, surf action, and a high risk of rip currents.

Under the influence of a dominant high pressure system over the Atlantic Ocean, there was strong easterly flow along the South Florida east coast. This lead to ongoing rough surf and dangerous rip currents along the Broward County coast on April 18th.
