Event narrative

Wind gust was measured at the Ocracoke XOCR WeatherFlow Station in the Pamlico Sound as thunderstorms were moving through the area.

Wider weather episode

A mesoscale convective complex developed across portions of Georgia and South Carolina during the morning of the Eighth and this complex of thunderstorms quickly raced east-northeastwards across the southern Coastal Plain during the afternoon. A few of these storms became strong in nature bringing strong and damaging wind gusts to the coastal waters south of Cape Hatteras and the Pamlico Sound as they tracked across the region.
