Event narrative

Lack of significant rainfall in the winter and spring months led to the development and expansion of severe drought (D2) across Glades County, which began in mid-April. By the end of April, a small portion of the county was in extreme drought (D3). Locations within Glades County had received approximately 50 to 60% of the normal rainfall total value for that time period. Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) was over 500 across the area. A burn ban was implemented for the county.

Wider weather episode

Prolonged periods of dry weather across much of South Florida during the winter and spring months led to the development of severe drought conditions through the end of April.
