What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A tornado touched down near Hickory Field Rd in Talisheek in association with an embedded supercell thunderstorm. This tornado quickly intensified causing visible damage to numerous trees including numerous uprooted trees just east of Cow Hammock Lake. This debris was visible via tornado debris signature on KLIX radar imagery in association with this circulation. Maximum width of the tornado was estimated via this swath of damage on satellite imagery. The tornado quickly occluded north over inaccessible land west of the Bogue Chitto River. Survey and analysis of this tornado damage path was conducted via high resolution satellite imagery from November 18 and 27, 2022 and supplemented by higher resolution data that could depict extent of tree damage in March 2024.

The wider storm

A surface low developed in southeast Texas early November 26th and tracked northeast towards central Arkansas throughout the day. At the same time, a cold front tracked across western Louisiana while a warm front lifted north across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. Moisture rich unstable air within this warm sector over the local area provided the environment to support a few severe thunderstorms. Severe winds, a tornado and flash flooding occurred with this event.

Began near Talisheek (30.5557, -89.8584).
