Event narrative
The mesonet located two miles west northwest of Lake McClellan measured a wind gust of 59mph behind a stratiform rain shield.
Wider weather episode
Thunderstorms developed during the afternoon hours of April 22nd east of the dryline. The combination of instability, abundant low level moisture and wind shear allowed storms to become severe and produce hail up to ping pong ball size in the southeast Texas Panhandle. A similar setup occurred on April 23rd where the dryline was situated a little further west which allowed for storms to develop across more of the combined Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles. Gusty winds and hail up to tennis ball size occurred on the 23rd as storms moved west.
