Drought in Far South Miami-dade County, Florida

Drought April 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025 · Far South Miami-dade County, Florida

What the National Weather Service wrote

Lack of significant rainfall over the previous 4 months led to the development of severe drought (D2) conditions over far south Miami-Dade County, which began in the northern half in March. Locations within far south Miami-Dade County had received approximately 50-60% of the normal rainfall total value for the calendar year. Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) was over 600 across the area. When the KBDI is over 600, this is often associated with more severe drought and increased wildfire occurrence.

The wider storm

Prolonged periods of dry weather across much of South Florida during the winter and spring months led to the continuing and intensification of drought conditions through the end of April.
