Drought in Coastal Miami-dade County, Florida

Drought April 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025 · Coastal Miami-dade County, Florida

What the National Weather Service wrote

There was slight improvement, but the lack of significant rainfall in April led to the continuation, and expansion, of severe drought (D2) across coastal Miami-Dade, which began in March. Locations within coastal Miami-Dade County had received approximately 50-60% of the normal rainfall total value for the calendar year. Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) was over 600 across the area. When the KBDI is over 600, this is often associated with more severe drought and increased wildfire occurrence.

The wider storm

Prolonged periods of dry weather across much of South Florida during the winter and spring months led to the continuing and intensification of drought conditions through the end of April.
