Blizzard — Yukon Delta Coast, Alaska

2025-04-04 · Yukon Delta Coast, Alaska

Event narrative

A combination of steady snowfall and strong winds led to a period of visibilities reduced to or below one quarter mile at the Chevak AWOS (PAVA). During this time frame peak wind gusts were measured at 54 mph with gusts consistently between 45 and 50 mph.

Wider weather episode

A stalled front that stretched from the western Brooks Range southwards to the YK Delta region provided the focus for steady snowfall along with very strong northerly winds west of the front. This brought a period of blizzard conditions to the coastal YK Delta in early April.
