A 71 mph wind gust was recorded at the West Texas Mesonet site in Lamesa, in addition to numerous gusts greater than 65 mph.

Wider weather episode

A passing shortwave interacting with a dryline resulted in scattered thunderstorm development over the central and eastern Permian Basin and Trans-Pecos region of West Texas during the afternoon of May 24th. These thunderstorms produced damaging winds/microbursts and quarter size hail before they moved to the northeast of the area overnight.
