Wider weather episode
An afternoon and evening filled with strong to severe thunderstorms swept through West Virginia on April 29th out ahead of a cold front. Storms started out on a sub-severe scale early in the afternoon, with only singular tree damage, but then grew stronger as the day wore on and produced more widespread downed trees and power lines across the state. Activity slowly waned around midnight as the cold front advanced into the Central Appalachians and drier weather invaded in from the west.
