What the National Weather Service wrote

Two reports were received measuring 6 inches of snow or greater, including a coop report at MSU Bozeman of 6.6 inches new snow over 24 hours.

The wider storm

Large scale lift associated with a southeastward diving trough and a cold front advancing southward across the region allowed for a period of heavy snow to develop, mainly in the mountains.
