Event narrative

The mesonet station located at the Annette Island Packing Company, located along the shoreline of Metlakatla, started to measure wind gusts in excess of 60mph at 140am on the 26th and continued through that afternoon, including a peak gust of 80mph at 425am. Other high wind gusts were measured at the elevation sites of Yellow Hill and Melson Lake. A NWS Employee reported that two power poles were leaning over or snapped on Walden Point Rd, closing the road and nearby stores. A later report from the local tribal government indicated damage had occurred to the historic Boat House.

Wider weather episode

A high end gale to storm force system moved in from the south, bringing damaging winds in the morning of the 26th to the southern panhandle while heavy precipitation rates brought snow to the north.
