Event narrative

The Hydaburg Seaplane Base AWOS started measuring gusts above 60mph at 420am on the 26th and continued through mid-day, including a peak gust of 81mph at 509am. A social media report shared a photo of damage to a porch roof from this event. Other peak winds across Prince of Wales Island ranged from a 57mph gust in Craig to sustained winds of 54mph at the Kasaan FAA webcam. The Inter Island Ferry was cancelled for the day in anticipation of the storm.

Wider weather episode

A high end gale to storm force system moved in from the south, bringing damaging winds in the morning of the 26th to the southern panhandle while heavy precipitation rates brought snow to the north.
