Rain changed to snow across the Chilkat Valley around dawn on the 26th as rates picked up. A trained spotter at 26 mile reported 7 inches had fallen by 1pm. Haines Customs similarly measured 8 inches at 147pm that day and a total of 14 inches by their following morning COOP report.

Wider weather episode

A high end gale to storm force system moved in from the south, bringing damaging winds in the morning of the 26th to the southern panhandle while heavy precipitation rates brought snow to the north.
