Event narrative

The NOFD Engine 36 Weatherstem mesonet measured a thunderstorm wind gust of 42 mph or 37 knots.

Wider weather episode

On the afternoon and evening of April 6th, a cold front tied to a low pressure system over the Tennessee Valley swept through the region, triggering a broken quasi-linear convective system (QLCS) in an environment of unstable air and modest wind shear. As the line moved across southeast Louisiana, strong thunderstorm winds gusted over Lake Pontchartrain before exiting the Lake and reaching its peak intensity along the Mississippi coast.
