Thunderstorm Wind in Stokes County, North Carolina
Thunderstorm Wind May 3, 2025 · Stokes County, North Carolina
Where the report was made, with tornadoes recorded within 15 miles over the years.
What the National Weather Service wrote
Thunderstorm winds blew down several trees near the intersection of Highway 65 and Easley Road.
The wider storm
Southwesterly flow ahead of a cold front across the Ohio Valley increased moisture across the Mid Atlantic, and some clearing allowed CAPE to increase to the 500 to 1000 J/kg range in the Piedmont. However, more cloud cover throughout the morning hindered destabilization somewhat, which limited coverage of storms. Enough shear in the atmosphere did allow some storms to grow stronger, and resulted in some scattered wind damage.
Began near Walnut Cove (36.2800, -80.1700).
