Wider weather episode

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms arrived into West Virginia on the afternoon of May 8th ahead of a cold front. Damaging wind gusts accompanying these storms resulted in downed trees and power lines across several counties in the southwestern portions of the state. In Mingo County, a Mesonet station in the town of Ragland measured a 58 mile per hour gust as strong storms moved through the area. There was also an isolated instance of quarter size hail observed in Logan County. The front slid through late that night and concluded the severe weather threat.
