The Weatherflow mesonet XSHI on Ship Island measured a thunderstorm wind gust of 42 mph or 37 knots.
The wider storm
A weak cold front moved through the local area on May 3rd. Marginal shear combined with sufficient instability resulted in a few severe thunderstorms along the coastal areas, including one waterspout.
