The Virginia Cooperative Extension reported hail damage in the town of Green Plain. Hail dents in the hoods of vehicles and corn crop damage (10% crop loss) was reported. Hail size is estimated since the damage was not discovered until after the hail had melted.

Wider weather episode

An occluded low was located over the Ohio Valley with a stationary front across central Virginia on May 5. A cold front gradually moved east during the late afternoon and evening of May 5, allowing for scattered severe thunderstorms across central and eastern Virginia. Additionally, an isolated severe storm formed during the morning of May 5 across central Virginia.
