A complex of severe thunderstorms that initially developed over Wisconsin the previous evening tracked all the way to the eastern Lake Erie and western New York areas through the night. The line developed ahead of an occluded front within a unstable and sheared environment. As the storms tracked into western New York, conditions became less favorable to maintain the strength of the storms. However, upon initially entering the western New York area, the thunderstorms were still strong to severe before weakening to just below severe thunderstorm criteria further east.
