Wider weather episode

During the early morning hours of Saturday May 17th, scattered thunderstorms along a warm front tracking east across Lake Ontario continued into the north central New York area. As the storms tracked inland from the lake, they became better organized and became severe.

Later in the morning and into the early afternoon, a pre-frontal trough, ahead of the cold front associated with the surface low and earlier warm front tracked across the area. As the trough tracked into far western New York, thunderstorms developed along it, and intensified to severe criteria.
