The Weatherflow mesonet XSHI on Ship Island measured a thunderstorm wind gust of 43 mph or 38 knots.
Wider weather episode
Widespread thunderstorms developed in east Texas on May 26th along a stalled frontal boundary. Those storms merged into a Mesoscale Convective System late in the afternoon and raced southeastward. As those storms moved across the local area, a severe wind gust was produced in the local marine area.
